Nonfat soy milk is included in the carbo group because it has carbs without fat. Regular soy milk, tofu and soy nuts are considered Funky Foods because they contain protein, fat and carbs. If you are a strict vegetarian and you need additional protein sources, I make an exception with tofu and soy products because the carbohydrate content is not terribly high. In addition, in Level Two, these are some of the first foods I encourage you to put back into your eating plan because soy has such important nutrients.

Are soy milk, soy formula, tofu, or other soy-based products safe for my infant?
There doesn't seem to be a consensus on this issue. Some research says that isoflavones in soy formula raise the estrogen levels in an infant's body to possibly dangerous levels. On the other hand, nutritionists say that tofu is perfectly safe for infants (who are eating solid food already, of course) to eat. This is definitely an issue to discuss with your pediatrician.
