Diaper Cloth: Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a good cloth diaper?
good cloth diaper should be absorbent enough so that you change your baby about every 2 hours or when wet. If the diaper is very thick, it will be difficult to get clean and also will take a great deal of energy to dry. A benefit of Blue Penguin’s All-in-One diaper is its “quick dry” flap construction. This not only allows for more thorough cleaning during washing, but also for quicker drying. A laundry load of diapers shouldn’t take any longer to dry than a load of towels.

How do I fold a cloth diaper?
Using a square 16" x 16" microfiber diaper, spread the diaper out flat, then fold 1/3 of the width from the left edge toward the center; now do the same from the right edge, leaving a strip 1/3 of the width of the diaper. Fold 1/3 up from the bottom. This is a trifold method. To see pictures and learn more click here.

Is it possible to cloth diaper at night?
Absolutely! When diapering at night you will need a diaper with more absorbtion then you would during the day. I really like windpro fleece diapers and wool for night. But I also like pockets as well because I can customize the absorbancy to my needs. I also like to use diapers with a stay dry liner for night like fleece so that the baby will not feel as wet which will prevent diaper rash since the baby will be in the diaper way longer then he/she would during the day. WHAT DETERGENT TO USE WHEN WASHING CLOTH DIAPER?
In Malaysia, choices of detergents are limited. If buying from the shop, we recommend using Persil, Breeze and Bio-degradeable Oxygenated washing powder available from Just Life stores. Please do not use any softener with your diaper. Another detergent that we strongly recommend is Charlie's Soap which we really love not only for our cloth diaper but also for everyday clothing. It works great, perfect for those with skin allergic and also biodegradeable. You can get Charlie's Soap from our store under Accessories section.

How do you wash a cloth diaper?
When washing cloth diapers, it is best to use a detergent that will not leave a residue in the fibers of the diaper. To avoid skin irritation, avoid soaps and detergents that contain synthetic fragrance, dyes, or toxins. Unless instructed by your diaper service, soaking diapers in water after they are soiled is not necessary. This method can actually encourage diapers to mold. Throwing them into a laundry pale or bag should be sufficient as long as they are laundered at least once per week. ...

What is the average lifespan of a cloth diaper?
This really depends on a few different things, how the diaper is made, how often it is used (compared to how many other diapers you have to use) and how you take care of them, if they are left to sit soaked in urine longer it is going to affect how long it lasts. If you hang them to dry they will last longer than if you dry them in a dryer but keep in mind that even hanging them in the sun will cause more wear on them because of the UV rays of the sun. ...
Why it takes how long to dry a cloth diaper?
As for drying, in our hot weather, it should not be long. If wash in the morning with the sun shining hot, by afternoon, it should be dry. Machine wash will tend to dry faster than hand wash. Our EASI fitted will dry a bit longer, usually 1 day due to the internal soakers sewn inside the diaper.

How is a cloth diaper different than disposable?
As a site that sells cloth diapers we obviously have an interest in selling more of them. While I personally find cloth diapers provide greater comfort and leak protection there are times disposables are more practical. My own experience with disposables is that when wet the absorbent material quickly forms into large clumps. If you are active these clumps separate from the plastic backing and fall to the crotch. ...

Can I use diaper cream with cloth diapers?
Most cloth diaper users will agree that it is not usually necessary to use diaper cream. Babies are changed more frequently and therefore not exposed to the same harsh conditions that babies in disposable diapers have to deal with. We have found that some diaper creams, especially those with a fish oil base, will leave a greasy residue on cloth diapers. Desitin seems to be the worst offender of the group. We are looking for a washroom solution at this time. ...

Place the open cloth diaper with the liner etc. in it on your changing table. Lay baby on diaper so that the top of the back of the diaper is at bellybutton height. Now fold front of diaper over baby, making sure you wrap the front two corners of the diaper around the sides of the baby ... pulling them slightly upwards will help get the fit around the legs snug. Do cloth diapers cause more diaper rash?
Many people believe that cloth diapers cause more rash than disposables. In fact, the opposite is generally true. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, 54% of one-month old babies using disposables had rashes and 16% had severe rashes. A study by a leading manufacturer of disposable diapers showed that the occurrence of diaper rash increases from 7% with cloth diapers to 61% with the use of disposables. The best way to prevent diaper rash is to change your baby's diaper, cloth or disposable, frequently.

Leaving a child in wet or soiled diapers of any sort for too long causes diaper rash. If routinely changed at two-hour intervals, Antsy Pants TM Pull-Up Cloth Diapers have not been found to cause diaper rash. What about the RYMPLE CLOTH, or the traditional cotton cloth, diaper or bath towels?
Sure, they work fine for lighter colors, or most fully cured paints; however, when you’re working on fresh paint or a custom finish, the foam is going to work the best to eliminate any fine line scratches that the other cloths may give you. One thing I like to do on the removal stage, whether I’m using the FOAM TOWEL or the RYMPLE CLOTH is to spray the cloth with just a mist of water. This acts like a magnet and eliminates any possible dusting or powdering that may be left around door handles or panel edges. ...

How often do I need to change my babies cloth diaper?
To prevent diaper rash and for baby's comfort, diapers should be changed as soon as they become soiled or wet. Check the diaper on a regular basis and you will soon catch on to your baby's wetness pattern. Most children need changing every 3-4 hours, but of course, this depends on the child. Some are heavy wetters and will need to be changed more often. Use an extra insert or doubler for the night.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN CLOTH DIAPER VS DISPOSABLE DIAPERS ABSORBILITY?
Please remember that cloth diaper cannot absorb like disposables since it is made from cotton/cloth and has no chemical. In disposable diapers, there's chemical beads called polyacrylate inside that can absorb so much urine that it can last for 12 hrs. This chemical is dangerous as it is known to be carcinogen which can lead to cancer. That is why we always have to change cloth diaper frequently compared to disposables. But using cloth diaper today is easier than using the traditional lampin. ...
