Is there Japanese food on the menu?

Yes. As our host country is Japan, we will also be serving a wide variety of Japanese meals. WE will be serving food to reflect several different tastes of the students and staff. The food will be nutritionally balanced, fresh and of high quality and will reflect the student body's cultural diversity.

What is Japanese food like?

It depends on what you like, but it is generally good. There is the raw fish and fermented squid intestines, but if that is not for you, then there are many other things to eat. There is also an abundance of imported high glycaemic crap, in the form of McDonalds, KFC, etc. On a shoot you mostly get a lunch box and a can of green tea, but occasionally they will provide a fresh, hot meal such as beef curry.
Sushi is of course the most famous of Japanese foods. But there are many other types as well. You will enjoy everything from elegant and subtle vegetarian delights (don't like tofu? Guess again! ) to fried pork cutlets and a wide variety of noodle dishes. Most guest fall in love with tempura, veggies and seafood lightly battered and fried. How is the Japanese food?

Having given you some hope of finding Indian food in Japan, I must emphasize that if you are not a strict vegetarian you will find many Japanese food simply great in taste. How can a trip to Japan be complete without a taste of that the world famous shushi and shasimi? And if you are thinking that these are live fish, please be assured that that is not the case. Can I buy /get Japanese food there ?

In Auckland and Christchurch you can get almost anything, although you may have to look and ask around when outside the city centre. In tourist resorts such as Queenstown and regional cities there are Japanese restaurants, but not much in the supermarkets, although this is changing fast. However, there are companies from which you can order quite a good range of Japanese food by mail. In this case, ask the staff, especially the Japanese councellor, at your school.

Can I get Japanese food in Seattle?

Do you like Japanese food?

Of course, I like most Japanese food. Do you consider your menu to be “authentic” Japanese food?

Yes and no. For items such as Zaru Noodles and the ramens, we took our cues directly from Japan. Items such as our edamame puree and ebi katsu reflect some creative license. Modern Japanese chefs have hit such high levels of creativity that we wanted to celebrate their innovation with some of our own.

Where can I find American, European or Japanese food and groceries in Singapore?

You can find it in major supermarkets like the NTUC, Carrefour, Cold Storage, Daimaru, Giant and others.

How much does eating out cost in Japan? Is Japanese food expensive?

Expenses for ten meals (7-lunch & 3-dinner parties) are included. Like anywhere, the cost of dining depends on where you go and what you eat. Dining out in Japan usually costs $10-20. If you eat and drink alcohol, it may cost $20-30 or more. For those who do not wish to spend a lot of money on food, there are also a variety of fast food restaurants such as McDonalds which charge about 500-600 yen ($5-$6) for a meal including a Coca Cola. However, during the trip, McDonalds and Coca Cola are not recommended!

I don't like Japanese food very much. Are there alternatives?

Fukuoka has more restaurants per person than anywhere else in Japan. There are many restaurants serving international cuisine. You'll never get bored with the food in Fukuoka! However, we definitely recommend trying some of the local cuisine too - Fukuoka is renowned for the freshness of its seafood, and there are many unqie local delicacies. Fukuoka is also the home of ramen, the Japanese noodle soup!

Lots of Japanese food is not raw fish or strange things with tentacles! For eating out, there are a range of restaurants in both locations offering both western and Japanese food, from pizza and Mexican, to BBQ grilled meat and simple delicious noodles... all fully cooked! For eating in, we have hand picked accommodation with kitchens so you can cook what you want, and where you can get to the supermarket easily. ...

I don't know anything about Japanese food. What should I do?

Most people think of sushi when they think about Japanese food. Although there are lots of places to eat sushi, most people eat other foods. A breaded pork cutlet is called "tonkatsu. " Ramen is a noodle dish that comes in many varieties. For starters, ask for "miso ramen. " Peking raviolis are known as "gyoza. " Most places display plastic models of the food outside of the restaurant. You can just point to what you want. Some places have a daily special called a "higawari-teishoku" for 600-900 yen. ...

I have heard stories about lots of weird sounding Japanese food in the macro diet – can you tell me about that?

The “father” of macrobiotics was Georges Ohsawa, who was Japanese, and when he devised the macrobiotic diet some Japanese foods were included. However, I have revised the diet and brought it up to date for the English climate and available foods – and it is easy to obtain the foods from local supermarkets and health food shops. You will be provided with a helpful shopping list.
