"Junk food" is food that has no nutritional value, such as hard candy, etc. Such food as hamburgers, pizza and tacos that are nutritionally prepared can be both healthy and readily accepted by children.

It is legally permissible to regulate the sale of certain products to children. This has been done for years with items such as tobacco, alcohol and firearms. Although it has not yet been attempted, banning the sale of non-nutritious foods and beverages to children is legally possible. It remains to be seen whether this is something that legislators will try.

Is a bran muffin or a granola bar considered sweets or junk food? Can these be eaten during the fast?

If you can make the bran muffin yourself, you'll be OK because you can leave out the sugar. But muffins in general have a ton of sugar so they are off the list. The same with a granola bar - they are loaded with sugar and really are not the best food to eat in general as a result. Replace these foods with fresh fruit and/or fresh vegetables.
