Isn't Mexican Food all hot stuff?

No, this is a common misconception. We do use some Chillies in certain dishes, but generally we temper our menu to suit the majority of tastes thus tend to go lightly. Also, because we cook to order, if you let us know when ordering, we simply will leave out the spicy ingredient. We also have a wide variety of Tex-Mex entrees and mains that are mild yet very tasty.

I'm not sure I like Mexican food. Are there any other options for dining?

Of course! Check out the Useful Links page for restaurants in Akumal. Although there aren't a lot of places to eat, there are options, including fresh seafood and USDA (US Department of Agriculture) certified meat. Also, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras aren't too far away and they have all sorts of restaurants including British-style pubs and Italian bistros.

First, let us say we are deeply sorry you live in an area with subpar mexican food. Now is the time to be adventurous. Try out some lesser known places, away from high traffic areas. If you walk in the restaurant and can’t read the menu, don’t walk out, just go up to the counter and say, “Carne Asada Burrito” (steak) or “Carnitas Burrito” (marinated pork).

My husband and I love Mexican food. We usually drink margaritas or beer but we’ve noticed that more Mexican food restaurants are offering wine. Does wine really go with Mexican food?

Yes, it can, quite well. In fact, if you really want to raise a few eyebrows, try champagne with Mexican food! In general, fruity red wines like Zinfandels and Shiraz work well—Bordeaux style blends and wines with a lot of tannins, not so much.
