No, we can never tell for sure unless we do an invasive test (amniocentesis or CVS). We do however look for ‘markers’ of Down’s syndrome at the detailed scan, but this only gives an indication of risk-never a certain diagnosis one way or the other.

Can a woman have more than one baby with Down’s syndrome?

This is rare except in the case of Chromosome 21 Translocation. Only 3% of people with Down’s syndrome have this type of the condition where part of chromosome 21 becomes attached to another chromosome and the two move around together.

Can anything be done to correct short stature in a child with Down’s syndrome?

Even growth hormones will not affect their height.
