Family physicians are specialists trained to evaluate your family's total health care needs. Our family practice doctors provide excellent preventative and acute care, and also serve as your advocate when specialty care is needed or required.

What Family Practice experiences will the fellows have?

The fellows will function as junior family practice faculty and help precept the residents in the FPC two to four half days per month during their elective months. This will encourage the development of teaching skills and also serve to keep family practice skills up-to-date. What is the clinical advantage of the family practice kit?

Incorrect cuff sizing can greatly affect the accuracy of blood pressure measurement. Too small a cuff will cause an overestimation of blood pressure, and too large a cuff an underestimation. The family practice kit provides three indexed cuffs that will properly accommodate arm sizes from 7.7 inches to 20 inches in circumference

What is a Family Practice Doctor?

A Family doctor is a specialist who has completed 4 years of medical school, followed by 3 years of residency, with intensive training in all the fields of primary care, including internal medicine, pediatrics, ob-gyn, psychiatry and geriatrics. Family doctors are skilled to treat most medical problems that come to their office. When referrals are needed the family physician will coordinate the appropriate referral and act as the patient's quarterback providing support and follow-up.

I am involved in a walk-in/family practice clinic where we have 5 doctors. Usually, we have one doctor seeing walk-in patients and another one doing appointments. No, we do not. We are not a primary care facility but we do encourage you to inform your family physician of your care here at WWC. All general health issues should be addressed by your family physician. We are a specialty clinic focusing on hormones and midlife health. To make the most out of your appointments with your physician here at WWC, we recommend you see your family physician for things such as cuts and colds, broken bones and bruises, and disability/unemployment forms and the like.

What is the difference between a Family Practice physician and an Internal Medicine physician?

Family practitioners care for patients of all ages, focusing on providing care to all members of the same family. Internal Medicine physicians provide care to adults over the age of 18. What is the difference between Family Practice and Med/Peds?

Family practice is a 3 year residency that includes obstetrics/gynecology. Med/Peds does not include obstetrics/gynecology. Med/Peds residents have more experience in intensive care and caring for patients with chronic illnesses as compared to family medicine.
