What are the differences between the Computer Science degree offered by NTU and the Computer Science degree offered by NUS?

The NTU Computer Science programme leads to a Bachelor of Engineering while the NUS degree leads to a Bachelor or Computing. Thus, NTU graduates enjoy some privilege in getting jobs which prefer engineers. The NTU programme is more practice-oriented, with a lot more hands-on, e.g. 5 weeks of Computing Innovation and Design project (done as a group project) 6 months of compulsory IA (optional in NUS)

Why did you decide to get a computer science degree?

Computer science came naturally to me. I've been writing code since I was five. I would copy code from magazines. I played around with BASIC early on. My parents checked out computer books from the library for me. Neither of my parents was involved in the tech industry, but they helped foster my curiosity.

What is the difference between a computer science degree and an IT degree?

An IT degree focusses on teaching specific skills and programs that are currently used. Can I complete the Computer Science degree in 4 years?

Yes, but only under the condition that you begin taking computer science courses immediately. CS courses have a strict prerequisite structure and it's not unusual to have a string of 3 or 4 prerequisites leading to a particular course. If you wait until your sophomore year to start taking CS courses, you may be unable to finish within the four-year timeline. A student is strongly encouraged to meet with an advisor early to learn what courses must be taken early and when those courses are scheduled to be offered. ...
