The cameras on many TV shows were raised high to avoid damage, but this also made the robots appear much smaller than they actually are.

Out of 3,000 or so search engines, some of the sites use human editors to view the site to determine whether or not it matches their criteria for listing. Examples of such sites are Yahoo, DMOZ, Findwhat etc. Majority of search engines however uses "robots" or "spider," which is an automated means of "crawling" all over the site, looking for the necessary elements it expects to find on a web page. There are two ways a search engine will look at a web site that has been submitted. Yahoo! and Looksmart use human beings to actually view the site to determine whether or not it matches their criteria for listing - - HotBot use a 'spider' which is an automated means of 'crawling' all over the site looking for the necessary elements it expects to find on a web page. The automated search engines are generally referred to as 'robotic', since they are not viewed by human beings.

Robots are automated tools used by Search Engines to look at a website. When a robot crawls your site, it notes the title and content of your web pages, links within the site, etc. The Search Engine uses this information to decide what your site is about, so that it can properly categorize it in the Search Engine's database.

Search engines work by sending out what are called spiders, crawlers, or robots. Essentially, they crawl through cyberspace looking for webpages. When they get to a page, they take a sort of picture of the page, indexing the information on it, and integrating it into their giant database of millions of websites. When you type a word into the search engines looking for websites with content on that topic, in a split second they go through billions of webpages that the spiders and robots have visited. ...

What are “robots”, “spiders” and “crawlers”?
These are little programmes used by search engines to look at the content of your site, these are the indexing tools of SE’s. The best way to think of these is as blind users they can’t see your styling, images or anything like this, they just see your content, and some of that is sketchy!!! My advice is not to write for these programmes but rather write for your end users.

Miyazaki did. Actually, they're very similar to the design of the robot in "Farewell Beloved Lupin" , which Miyazaki wrote and directed in 1980. This episode was, in turn, an homage to the Fleischer brothers' "Superman" (episode #2, "The Mechanical Monster", 1941).
